Hội nghị Sinh viên Nghiên cứu Khoa Học 2009

Nhằm giúp đỡ và tạo điều kiện cho các sinh viên giao lưu và học hỏi lẫn nhau trong học tập, cũng như định hướng nghiên cứu khoa học và nghề nghiệp, CLB SVNCKH khoa Điện Tử – Viễn Thông tổ chức buổi “Hội nghi sinh viên nghiên cứu khoa học”. Đặt tay vào sản phẩm mới nhất NI ELVIS II, một nền tảng giáo dục cho việc thiết kế và chế tạo mẫu, và xem làm cách nào để tương tác tìm hiểu việc thiết kế mạch và điện tử thông qua việc mô phỏng và thiết bị ảo (virtual instrumentation) để kết nối lí thuyết với trạng thái mạch trong thực tế.

Với Multisim, LabVIEW, và NI ELVIS II, giờ đây có thể thiết kế, chế tạo mẫu, và so sánh các đặc tính của các mạch mô phỏng với các phép đo thực tế trong một nền tảng giáo dục về điện tử đơn lẻ với các công cụ thiết kế hệ thống bằng đồ họa của National Instruments như NI Multisim và NI LabVIEW và các môi trường chế tạo mẫu như Bộ thiết bị thí nghiệm ảo NI ELVIS (NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite).

Trong buổi hội thảo này quý vị sẽ:

How the Open Source Movement Has Changed Education: 10 Success Stories

How would you like to study at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) for free? It has been nearly six years since MIT first announced their MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) program. More recently, MIT announced that the OCW program, a free and open educational resource (OER) for educators, students, and self-learners around the world, is online and will be completed by 2008. The OCW provides open access to course materials for up to 1,550 MIT courses, representing 34 departments and all five MIT schools. The goal is to include materials from all MIT courses by next year.

MIT provides just one of the 10 open source educational success stories detailed below. Open source and open access resources have changed how colleges, organizations, instructors, and prospective students use software, operating systems and online documents for educational purposes. And, in most cases, each success story also has served as a springboard to create more open source projects.

Why Do Students Like Online Learning?

Why do students flock to the online learning environment? With over 4 million students are enrolled in online schools and universities (and that number is growing 30% per year), there are many compelling arguments for attending a cyber classroom (Lewis, 2005).
1.
Students can “attend” a course at anytime, from anywhere. This means that parents can attend to their children, then sit down to class; working students can attend classes no matter what their work schedule might be, folks that travel for business or pleasure can attend class from anywhere in the world that has internet access.
2.
Online learning enables student-centered teaching approaches. Every student has their own way of learning that works best for them. Some learn visually others do better when they “learn by doing.”
3.
Course material is accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Students have the ability to read and re read lectures, discussions, explanations and comments. Often spoken material in the classroom passes students by due to a number of distractions, missed classes, tiredness or boredom.

In an online environment, attendance to class is only evident if the student actually participates in classroom discussion. This increases student interaction and the diversity of opinion, because everyone gets a say, not just the most talkative.
5.
Online instructors come with practical knowledge and may be from any location across the globe. This allows students to be exposed to knowledge that can’t be learned in books and see how class concepts are applied in real business situations.
6.
Using the internet to attend class, research information and communication with other students teaches skills in using technologies that will be critical to workers in the 21st century business community that works with colleagues globally and across time zones.

Participating online is much less intimidating than “in the classroom.” Anonymity provides students a level playing field undisturbed by bias caused by seating arrangement, gender, race and age. Students can also think longer about what they want to say and add their comments when ready. In a traditional class room, the conversation could have gone way past the point where the student wants to comment.

Because online institutions often offer “chat rooms” for informal conversation between students, where student bios and non class discussions can take place, there appears to be a increased bonding and camaraderie over traditional class environments.

The online environment makes instructors more approachable. Students can talk openly with their teachers through online chats, email and in newsgroup discussions, without waiting for office hours that may not be convenient. This option for communication provides enhanced contact between instructors and students.

Online course development allows for a broad spectrum of content. Students can access the school’s library from their PC’s for research articles, ebook content and other material without worries that the material is already “checked out.”
11.
Students often feel that they can actually listen to the comments made by other students. Because everyone gets a chance to contribute, students are less irritated with those that “over contribute” and can ask for clarification of any comments that are unclear.

Over 75% of colleges and universities in the U.S. offer online degree programs, with online degrees as respected as “on the ground” degrees. (Lewis)

Online classrooms also facilitate team learning by providing chatrooms and newsgroups for meetings and joint work. This eliminates the problems of mismatched schedules, finding a meeting location and distributing work for review between meetings.

Students often comment that online learning lets them attend class when fully awake and attend in increments of convenient time block, rather than rigid 2 or 4 hour stretches once or twice a week.

Because there are no geographic barriers to online learning, students can find a diversity of course material that may not be available to them where they live or work. This is especially true for professional training such as medical billing training or purchasing training and for students in remote rural areas that cannot support college or vocational training centers.

While “brick and mortar” institutions will never be eliminated, it’s easy to see why a growing number of people are attending class in the cyber world. They may be reasons of accessibility, flexibility or quality, all compelling and contributing to the attractiveness of this mode of learning.

How to avoid wasting time on Facebook

He thinks that Facebook is just another way for blowing “off work you should be doing.” I think he may be partially right. I have spent so much time in the past week playing addictive games on Facebook, that productivity has decreased significantly. I have been working long hours but much of that is due to the fact that so many hours have been wasted on Facebook.

While Facebook is probably the best social network for maintaining relationships, I am starting to see a value behind a site like LinkedIn. Holding true to the KISS model (keep it simple stupid), LinkedIn provides me with little distraction items. On the other hand, I log in to Facebook and am immediately sucked in by my hundreds of friends who are constantly updating their profiles. Then to get a break from my quick update on friendly news, I click on one of the games that I have installed on my account.

What’s funny though is that most of the time people seem to be spending on Facebook (let alone the internet) are on tools that allow them to waste time. Perhaps this is why Facebook will continue to be successful. Are you spending most of your time on Facebook on addictive games or are you actually being productive?

How to Avoid Wasting Time on Facebook

Steps

1. Ignore requests. When someone sends you a request, you may not be able to see the full details of the request. You may wonder if it’s important, or interesting. But if you really just want to check out the networks and not get completely into the more frivolous activities (playing vampires and werewolves, for example) then don’t feel you have to respond to those requests. They do take time.

* Leave a note (in your status, on your “wall…”) that explains you often won’t reply to most requests.
* Remember, a lot of Facebook applications send requests to all friends by default, so your friends may not really be expecting you to respond.
* On your “confirm requests” page, you don’t have to click “ignore” on every request. Scan the page, see if there’s anything of value – e.g. any old friends you’re happy to hear from – and after you’ve approved them, click “Ignore all” near the top right.
2. Stop the constant emails:

* Click settings (top right) and choose Account settings, then the Notifications. Switch most of the options to “off”. You may have to click Show more at the bottom to select for all applications, and you may need to do this again when you add new applications.
* Alternatively, use an email filter so you don’t get distracted by frequent emails from Facebook. Just go to the site regularly enough to catch stuff that you are interested in. Check the requests and notifications on the site itself – if you’re a few days late it generally won’t matter.

o Simple filter example: filter out anything from facebook.com. E.g. if you use Gmail, make a filter and for “From:” enter @facebookmail.com, and in the next step choose “Skip the Inbox (Archive it)”.
o You might make an exception for emails for certain types of notifications, e.g. with the text added you as a friend on Facebook, if you don’t want to risk missing friend requests. E.g. in Gmail, when you’re setting up the filter, for “Doesn’t have:” enter “added you as a friend on Facebook”. (You can add more than one phrase using OR and putting quotes around each complete phrase.)
3. Avoid games and third-party applications (apps). Playing games, decorating your profile, and rating your friends will suck up your time before you know it.

4. Go offline chat. You’re about to log out of Facebook, then a good pal of yours sends you an IM. You’ll stay on to chat for a while, and before you know it you decide to look at some pictures, explore some groups, and there goes another hour. To avoid getting IMed, click on the Chat button in the bottom right corner and choose “Go Offline.” This way no friends can IM you. Lots of time can be wasted on Facebook if you’re waiting for a friend to reply to a message you sent. So don’t feel the need to stay logged on after sending a friend a message or a Wall post, either. You’ll reply next time you go on.

5. Bring a timer with you to the computer. Whether it’s the timer on your watch, or an actual kitchen timer that “dings” when the time is up, make it a habit to start the clock as soon as you get on Facebook, and get off as soon as your time is up. Fifteen minutes might be a healthy amount of time to spend on a Facebook session.
* If you use Firefox, you can use the LeechBlock add-on to track your time spent on facebook.com and kick you off after a period of time you specify.
* Also, instead of habitually going on Facebook as part of your routine, set incentives for yourself before going on. This is a good idea if you find yourself ending up on Facebook when you’re supposed to be working. Like “I’ll allow myself to go on for 15 minutes after I finish this assignment” or “I’ll look at those new pictures after I finish this chore.” Also consider having a temporary, password-protected internet filter for facebook.com on while you’re working. Give the password to a trusted family member or roommate, and ask them to activate it before you begin and deactivate it after you’re finished.
6. If all else fails, quit Facebook.

Export Yahoo 360 to WordPress

Chương trình này chỉ chạy được với trình duyệt Firefox, nếu bạn đang dùng Internet Explorer thì hãy download Firefox về để chạy nhé.

Bước 1: Bạn vào www.wordpress.com để đăng ký cho mình một blog ở WordPress.com. Quá trình đăng ký rất đơn giản, bạn nhớ chọn ngôn ngữ sử dụng là Tiếng Việt nhé.

Bước 2: Mở blog Yahoo 360 của bạn ra, nhớ là blog của bạn phải để ở chế độ setting public nhé. Vào trang My Blog nhé. Chú ý là trang My Blog chứ không phải là My Page nhé.

Bước 3: Vào trang export ở địa chỉ http://vietajax.net/360exp/#

Bước 4: Copy đường link trang My Blog của bạn ở Address Bar, paste vào ô bên cạnh ô Bắt đầuvà bấm Bắt đầu

Bước 5: Nếu nó báo lỗi thì bạn bấm để nó khởi động lại. Khi chương trình bắt đầu chạy, nó sẽ thông báo cho bạn biết là Blog tên là gì, có bao nhiêu entry. Sau đó nó sẽ lần lượt liệt kê quá trình copy từng entry và các comment của entry đó.

Bước 6: Sau khi quá trình phần mềm export chạy xong, bạn bấm vào nút Download để tải về file có tên là backup.html. Bạn hãy lưu file này vào chỗ nào dễ tìm trong máy tính của bạn.

Bước 7: Vào lại WordPress.com, rồi sign-in vào blog của bạn. Ở bảng điều khiển (Dashboard), chọn mục Công cụ (Tool), chọn Import, chọn tiếp WordPress. Tiếp theo bấm vào nút browser, sau đó browse cái file backup.html vừa nãy vào đây. Bấm vào nút upload.

Bước 8: Hãy chờ đợi WordPress import blog cho bạn. Nó sẽ liệt kê lần lượt các entry được import. Bạn nhớ kiểm tra xem nó import đủ số entry chưa nhé. Sau khi hoàn thành WordPress sẽ thông báo cho bạn biết.
